UNIT 1 - JOURNEY HOME

8/23/2022

Tuesday, AUG. 23 and Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2022 - A/B Block

Website, Syllabus, Formatting the Interactive Notebook, Sacred Naming Ceremony, Jumping the Gator and HW 1- Click on "Read More"
Today, in class, we:

Greeted students at the door with the gong challenge, using the threshold technique.
Watched and discussed CNN10.
Looked at tangleworld.org and the course syllabus.

Conducted the sacred naming ceremony (see picture).
Formatted the interactive notebook by:
    - Numbering every side of every page.
    - Creating a title page on page 1
    - Adding a security feature
    - Creating the IB to HISD Scale on page 2 (see below).
    - Creating the Table of Contents on page 4 (see below).
On a piece of notebook paper created HW 1 - Parent Sign-off. This is due next class (see below).
Went outside to "the gator" under the giant oak. Students crossed over the gators' back towards the school, pausing to make a wish for their eighth grade self, before crossing towards Tanglewood and their middle school experience (see picture)

Homework:

1) Have your parent go to my website at tangleworld.org on any device they have available. Show them the class blog and have them sign that they have done so on HW 1 - Parent Sign-off (see below).

Picture
My A3 class participating in the sacred naming ceremony for their interactive notebooks.
Picture
Students in my A3 participating in "jumping the Gator", a tradition in my class. They step on the gator's back and make a wish for their 8th grade self. Once across, they are in middle school. On the last day of 8th grade they can step on the gator's back nd wish for something in their 12th grade year. At that point they become high schoolers.
