Field Lesson to Explore a Hindu Mandir, Buddhist Temple and an Islamic Mosque
During the the Covid Crisis, all field experiences were curtailed. We were delighted to begin them again with our trip to visit World Religion sites around the City of Houston. We had done this same trip for 15 years in a row, to take advantage learning from the diversity of this city, with 221 spoken languages and wealth of traditions from around the world. We planned on going to see a Hindu mandir, a Buddhist temple, and an Islamic mosque to learn more about the traditions. It was a multi-stop trip that is tightly timed to allow for adequate time to explore these great sites.
Sadly, our trip was affected immediately, by buses that arrived two hours late. We were able to make it to the mandir (see picture above). Unfortunately we were stranded att he mandir when our divers and one of our buses were called to service other routes. After much wrangling on the phone and two hours in the parking lot of the mandir, our drivers returned on a replacement bus, but one of the original buses wouldn't start. We squeezed everyone onto the two working school buses and limped back to Tanglewood. We had to call and cancel at the temple and mosque because of this unfortunate situation (see picture).
