4/6/2020

UNIT 5 - THE ARC OF HISTORY (EUROPE)

MINI-UNIT: THE INFLUENCE OF ANCIENT GREECE AND ROME

Notes 5.4 Ancient Greeks: Golden Age: The Gifts of Greece

Key Concept:  Change

Related Concept(s):  Innovation, Revolution

Global Context:  Scientific and Technical Innovation

Statement of Inquiry:  Scientific and technical innovation can lead to change in a society.

Factual Question – Was Athens the only Greek city-state to contribute these great ideas?

Conceptual Question –  What does philosophy mean?

Debatable Question – Many great ideas and contributions have emerged from every world historical culture. Why are Greek ideas so widespread (well-known) and others less so?

Update the Table of Contents in your interactive notebook (see below).

Add and complete the entry for the following terms on pages 16 an 17 in the Vocabulary Primer  – reason, logic, amphitheatre, historical narrative, lyric poem

We will be using following Active Classroom resource: Ancient Greeks: Golden Age: The Gifts of Greece

Link – HUB challenge!  Log in to Active Classroom and find this activity (hint – the name is above).
There is also a helpful guide to logging in to Active Classroom (see below).

Complete all the reading sections by converting the multiple-choice questions into statements and writing them as notes on pages 52 and 53 of your interactive notebook.

There are three activities. Do only Activity 1 “Famous Greeks” on page 54. You are free to research more on your own - the one(s) that interest you. (Hint – our unit summative involves individuals and their significant contribution).

Interdisciplinary (Trans-disciplinary) Connections:

The other two (Activities 2 and 3) can be an interdisciplinary activity with Mrs. Savage in Language Arts and Mrs. Wuertz in Theatre Arts.  We will address that tomorrow (Tuesday).

Practice your citizenship – Start by watching CNN 10 at

https://www.cnn.com/cnn10

Write a question for each story in the last pages of your interactive notebook, where we used to write our DO NOW question.

MOTIVATION MONDAY - Every Monday, I will pass on a link to help during these trying times.
